Utada Hikaru Wants to take a break

Any fans of Japanese pop sensation Hikaru Utada out there?

It seems like she’s done enough in her career, entertaining people not only in Japan but around the world including our very own US of A. Utada has announced via her blog on Monday August 9, that she’s taking an indefinite break from the music industry starting next year in 2011.

“I want to take a break from the glitzy life of an artist and focus on life as a person. In order to advance as an artist, I have to grow as a person first. It could be two years or five years, I don’t know. I’ll come back after I’ve become more of an adult.”

It’s been 12 years since she released her debut album Automatic and it’s been uphill for her since then. Being featured all over the world, performing in her own concerts and being on one of the biggest video game soundtracks out there. She was 15 at the time. At 27 years old she’s decided on stepping away from the spotlight for the moment and trying her hand at a normal life. Though it may be difficult, with fans knowing her from all over the world, it may be a good choice for her to try and ground herself back down to Earth. Not that she’s ever been big headed or not down to Earth, it’s a good thing to take breaks once in a while.

However, before going on this possibly long hiatus, Utada will release a new album titled Utada Hikaru Single Collection Vol.2 this fall. The CD will contain singles since 2004 and an additional 4 to 5 unreleased new tracks. Here is the tracklist:

  1. Dareka no Negai ga Kanau Koro (Casshern theme)
  2. Be My Last (Haru no Yuki theme)
  3. Passion (“Kingdom Hearts II” theme)
  4. Keep Tryin’ (LISMO! TV CM tie-in)
  5. This Is Love (Nissin Cup Noodle’s Freedom Project theme)
  6. Boku wa Kuma (Oct.-Nov. 2006 song on NHK TV “Minna no Uta”)
  7. Flavor Of Life -Ballad Version- (TBS TV “Hanayori Dango 2” image song)
  8. Beautiful World (Evangelion Shin Gekijoban: Jo theme)
  9. Kiss & Cry (Nissin Cup Noodle’s Freedom Project new CM theme)
  10. Heart Station (CM song for Record Kaisha Chokuei)
  11. Stay Gold (new CM song for Kao brand Asience)

More songs may be added as the CD is produced, and there has been no word yet on the exact drop date. You can count on Whargarbl TV to keep you posted.
